Day One

We are sick. Sick, sick, sick. Everything is new, new people, new place, new bed, new animals, new everything. Zela and Francesca spend almost 24 hours feverishly sleeping, waking only to cry out in distress and lie in bed screaming until Mama comes to help. Needless to say, Momma does not venture far from the cabin, and never for long. So much for community living, huh? Soon enough.

Lauren finds the first ripe strawberry in the garden patch, and Shawn splits it six ways, for each child. The rest of us content ourselves with bowls of lilikoi, guava, strawberry and pineapple guava (!), tangerines, and papaya. In addition to the guava, the lilikoi is straight from the yard. It is heavenly.

I spend much of the day on the porch, just being. That is enough.
